Thanksgiving 2008 - Part II

John and Ellie got to play with Gram and all their cousins this weekend. Gram and Aunt Suzannah fixed up a great Thanksgiving meal.

Here are a few memorable moments:

People Food
John (playing with some plastic food): Here's one for you. And here's one for Mommy...
Me: What about Ellie? Is this one for Ellie?
John: Ellie can't eat food. (pause) But she will grow. And she'll be able to eat people food.

Tom and Jerry
A cat found it's way into Gram's yard.
Katy: John, look out the window. There's a cat in Gram's garden!
John: There IS a cat. (pause) Maybe Gram needs to cut it in half.
(OK - No more Tom and Jerry cartoons for John...)

The Very Hungry Caterpillar John
On Sunday, we all went to Herrera's.
John ate:
  • chips (he dipped some in salsa)
  • a tortilla
  • my entire cup of bean soup, including the bacon pieces
  • all of the carne guisada from my burrito
  • half of my beef enchilada
  • all of my guacamole
While his cousins finished their food and went to play in the game room, John sat at the table eating. I don't think I've ever seen him eat so much!

Benjamin the Bartender
It seems like every time we're visiting John's cousins, at some point Men-men (age 3) runs to the fridge and comes back with a soda for Katy and a beer for me. I love it when he does that and he knows, because he does it every time.

Before we left Dallas, we stopped by to say goodbye. Katy was going to snag a couple of water bottles for the ride. She asked Men-men if he would get them for her. Of course, he comes running back with a soda for her and a beer for me. "Joe would like this better."

Katy exchanged them for water bottles. But a cold one would've really helped me relax after dealing with the traffic on Central...

Not really, though he didn't have much for lunch that day.

Sometimes he eats a little and is ready to go play. Other times he'll chow down.
